What We Do
Tiyatien Health strives to bring hope and healing to this region by improving the equitable delivery of comprehensive healthcare services to rural communities through the public sector. In February 2007, Tiyatien Health, in partnership with the Liberian Ministry of Health and the National AIDS Control Program, launched the HIV Equity Initiative – Liberia’s first comprehensive, community-based HIV treatment program – at the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County. The HIV Equity Initiative (HEI) has successfully provided comprehensive health and social services to a growing group of over 100 HIV-infected individuals. The backbone of HEI’s success is its network of community health workers, called “accompaniers,” who provide long-term medical, moral and psychosocial support to HIV-positive individuals and their communities.
